assignment a

2. Examine how two poets have tried to admit the horror and ruin of war.

The two poets i have chosen are Wilfred Owen, who wrote Dulce et decorum est., and ted hughes, bayonet charge.

the unfortunate troopers in dulce et decorum est have been dragged though the mud, rain and horror of the trenches and directly are marching in the cold rain. bent double, akin old beggars under sacks suggests they are tired and sore, as they may have just been involved in a battle. this shows the misery of war by describing them in pain. knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we goddamn through sludge. suggests they are wishing for it to end. they want to go house to their families and dont wish to continue any further. close of the soldiers are blood-shod (covered in blood. this may suggest they are injured.) or are blinded by chemicals from hitman shells.

in the piece paragraph they are gassed and the troopers fumble for their gas masks before the gas kills them. they only manage to get their masks fitted just in time, all except one. the writer describes the scene: but someone distillery was yelling out and stumbling and floundering like a man in fire or lime. dim through the misty panes and heavy green light, as under a green sea, i saw him drowning.
