"A Raisin In The Sun" Meaning Of Title

The title of the shoo-in, A Raisin in the Sun, is from a line from the poem, A Dream Deferred, by Langston Hughes. The poem focuses on the theme of dreams non coming true. It considers what happens to them, asking where do they go. This poem connects to the younger Family in the play because they all have dreams that cannot be fulfilled because of their race. They pine from discrimination and segregation which keeps them from achieving what they strive for in life.
The poem starts come to the fore by asking, Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? That refers to a dehydrated raisin that lacks the fluids of its former self. In the play at various points, the Youngers family constantly was weakened by the big(p) work they did for white people. They were stressed and overtired, which resulted in Walter collapsing in mien of the family and Ruth fainting. Mama feels terrible because of this, because she wasnt able to give her children a great life.
