African Americans
The story of African American immigration is unique among immigrant groups, just as the African American experience in America has been uniquely aboriginal to the course of American life. According to African American finish & Black History, the history of African Americans in the United States began in 1619 when a Dutch ship brought the first slaves from Africa to the shores of North America. Of either ethnic groups, African Americans were the only ones to arrive on these shores against their will. African Americans were caught up in a brutal system of gentlemans gentleman exploitation. The treatment they and their descendents endured in the United States was of a harshness seldom surpassed in recent history, and their role in U.S. society was contend with a ferocity that nearly tore the nation apart.
The age immediately following the Civil War were a succession of hope for African Americans on all levels: politically, economically, and socially. The ratification of the thirteenth Amendment freed them, for the first time ever, from the hands of their Southern masters.



Blacks gained control of their protest destiny and had chance to rise above their squalid condition. The Congress, dominate by anti-slavery Republicans, was determined to ram through sweeping elegant rights legislation equalizing blacks and whites. Republicans passed through the Civil Rights Bill of 1866 over republican President Andrew Johnsons veto. This legislation granted citizenship to blacks, an immeasurably important demand for gaining other important rights, such as suffrage. Under the Bill, secretion because of race was made illegal. The Fourteenth Amendment, added to the Constitution two historic period later, ensured that the rights gained by blacks under the Bill would be protected from swipe by later Democratic Congresses.
