Psycho is a definitive noir bring directed by the, experimental, Alfred Hitchcock in the 1960s. Within the need a woman named Marion Crane steals forty thousand dollars and attempts to escape to California. She ends up staying at Bates Motel where most of the plot takes place. Marion is executinged by an anonymous figure which then is followed by a look for to find out what has happened to her. The plot of this movie theater follows a generic theme of classic noir as it involves a dark evil of murder with a dramatic twist at the end. Throughout the film there ar distinctive shadows on the womans face as well as other characters, for example, when Marion is brainish her car. This follows a key convention in noir films as umteen use low key lighting when filming. there are also long shadows from the characters on the surrounding walls, a decisive technique you would not see in a lofty budget/Hollywood film.



This is clearly seen when Marion and Norman are talk in the bedroom. Another lighting technique used is the chiaroscuro effect, a dramatic contrast of light and shade in scenes. There are a number of examples of this with in the film hardly the most famous one is the clear contrast of Normans black house with the light grey sky. each these shadowing effects are done to create any an eerie and mysterious feel or a menace and horror atmosphere to the scene. This is why we refer to these films as film noir as it is generally does not create warmth or satisfaction for the audience; it rather keeps them on edge.
